About

Winner of Channel 4’s Kirsties handmade Christmas 2017, Sammy Owens, A Textile designer from Hampshire UK, designs and creates unique pompom animals with character and charm.. With her love for all creatures, great and small, she creates whimsical characters for your home and loved ones to cherish.

"I love to use different textiles and techniques for my work and pride myself on being unique. My giant pompoms are made using my very own handmade pompom loom so there will never be another the same! I like to use luxury wool and to test myself, sculpting different shapes and creating depth and definition in my work. I just love to see my work evolve, creating characters that seem to come to life before my eyes."

Sammy is also a veterinary nurse and bird keeper, she has a dedicated bird room in her home for all of her fabulous feathered friends. When she isn’t designing, working on pompoms, looking after her two young children or training her birds, you can guarantee she will be in her pajamas, watching Netflix!

"I love nothing more than unwinding with a bottle of wine and cheese and biscuits on an autumnal evening, by the fire listening to music or catching up with my favourite program. I love beach walks and summer evenings, hanging out with my birds or enjoying family dog walks.

"Winning Kirstie's handmade Christmas back in 2017 was a huge and proud moment for me, it also showed off my work and lead on to great things. I did skills workshops for the Handmade fair in 2018 both at Bowood house and Hampton court palace. I had so much fun doing these and found that I loved teaching, even though I had never done it before. I wish I could do it all over again and hope to teach workshops in the future. I have also been in a few publications and was even on the front cover of Mollie makes magazine recently which was a dream come true!. I am currently writing a book ( still!! ha ha) and hope to get that published in the near future.

With her love of animals, Sammy has also decided to apply her work to pets... creating gorgeous pet portraits and unique whimsical illustrations.

“ I did a bit pf photography and graphic design when I was at college and its always something I have been interested in and enjoyed. I have been practicing digital art for the past few months, studying it and creating my own unique style and I am looking forward to creating some wonderful artwork for people.”.
